Brit skier, 30, dies after ‘heavy fall’ in French Alps just days after another British man collapsed at ski resort

A BRITISH tourist has died after a ‘heavy fall’ at a French resort.

The 30-year-old is the second UK national to die in the alps within a matter of days.

The skier, who has not been identified, was evacuated to a hospital in a serious condition last Monday but sadly died during the night.

They reportedly suffered the “heavy fall” at the Serre Chevalier resort in the La Salle-les-Alpes sector.

First aid responders in the area provided care for the injured skier before the French National Police (CRS) arrived and evacuated them.

French news outlet BFM TV reported the Brit was “in a state of brain death” before they were taken to the Grenoble University Hospital, where they were later pronounced dead.

The exact circumstances of the person’s death are not yet known.

Boss of the ski resort Patrick Arnaud said: “The victim was discovered by a patroller who immediately raised the alarm.

“Joined by several other trackers, they provided first aid. All the ski area teams are affected by this tragedy and all our thoughts are with the family,” Le Dauphine reports.

Public prosecutor of the Hautes-Alpes department of Gap, Marion Lozac’hmeur, said an investigation into the tragic death has been launched.

She said: “A judicial investigation has been opened to determine the circumstances of the accident. It is entrusted to the CRS Alpes.”

It comes after another British tourist died from a heart attack at a ski resort in the French Alps.

The 63-year-old collapsed at the popular resort of La Plagne in the valley of the Tarentaise.

A police spokesman told The Sun: “Emergency workers were at the scene extremely quickly, but the man could not be revived.

“He was declared dead by the Modane mountain aid station.”
