Giuseppe Stilo and his wife Federica Marrella were seated at opposite ends of the plane, Giuseppe at the front and Federica at the back, due to the airline’s seat allocations.

The couple’s flight had taken off from Turin Airport, Italy at 11am on Wednesday when an alarm sounded just 15 minutes in.

Unbeknownst to Federica, who is five months pregnant, her husband Giuseppe had become unresponsive.

Two doctors on board the flight gave him CPR before the flight crew attempted to revive him using a defibrillator.

The flight headed back to the departure airport, landing at 11.35am, where emergency medics boarded the plane and administered Giuseppe adrenaline – but he was soon pronounced dead.

Federica only learned of her husband’s death after arriving back in Turin, according to Torino Today.

She was reportedly taken to a nearby hospital in a state of shock.

The FR8780 flight was originally bound for Lamezia Terme International Airport.

Giuseppe, from Filogaso, worked at the Ferrero factory in Alba and lived with his wife, from Pizzo, in Cuneo.

The pair married in June last year and were travelling on Wednesday to see family in Calabria.

Giuseppe began to feel ill after his flight set off from Caselle airport in Turin, LaStampa reports.

The plane’s pilot was notified and decided to return to the departure airport as two passengers who were trained as doctors stepped up to help Giuseppe, aided by flight staff.

Giuseppe died after suffering a heart attack, the Daily Mail reports.

The Sun has reached out to Ryanair for comment.
