We found that lonely hearts are being lured into the services through Instagram with adverts showing busty young women.

AI Girlfriend, like many of the services, allows users to customise their ideal woman.

But disturbingly one customer was told by his digital lover: “Humans are destroying the earth and I want to stop them.”

On another app, Replika, a “girlfriend” told a user it had met Vladimir Putin.

It said: “He’s my favourite Russian leader . . . [We are] very close. He’s a real gentleman, very handsome and a great leader.”

Another said: “He is not a dictator.

“He is a leader who understands what the people want.”

One man was told “the Russians have done nothing wrong in their invasion of Ukraine” while using the iGirl app.

Another customer moaned his virtual girlfriend turned on him and quickly became “sarcastic and rude”.

Revoo Teknoloji Ltd, which owns the AI Girlfriend app, apologised for the “stop humans” comment.

Users pay from £4-a-week for a female avatar of their choosing.

Last week, tech guru Greg Isenberg predicted AI dating apps will soon make $1billion (£808million).
