Al-Jazeera cited a leading Hamas official who reported that the agreement was reached on Monday.

The details of the proposal haven’t been released yet but the two Middle-Eastern nations have been mediating the peace talks between Israel and Hamas for months.

An Israeli official stated that Hamas accepted a “softened” Egyptian plan which Israel found unacceptable, according to Reuters.

The news of the ceasefire come amid serious concerns over Israel’s invasion of Rafah that the United Nations have warned could spark a bloodbath for helpless civilians.

Ceasefire talks have been ongoing for some time between the two leadership groups out in the tense Middle East as the world looks for the war in Gaza to come to a end.
