THREE prison officers were shot dead when they were ambushed while transporting an inmate today.
Armed attackers pounced on the convoy at a tollbooth in northern France and helped the prisoner to escape.

The prisoner and criminals are now on the run with two vehicles, one of which was found burned and abandoned earlier today.
Mohamed A, the escaped inmate, is known to cops for drug trafficking.
The attack happened near Eure, in Normandy as the van stopped at a tollbooth in Incarville.
One of the cars used in the escape, a white Audi A5, was found destoryed in Vatteville.
The other, a BMW 5 headed in the direction of Louviers and Evreux.
Footage online appeared to show emergency services at the tollbooth in France.
