The mum who wished to remained anonymous discovered her good fortune after an extensive search to find the winner.
Queensland‘s biggest lottery winner said she “completely forgot” she had purchased the ticket in the lead-up to her birthday.
It was only until she heard about a mystery Queensland winner after returning from a morning run on Friday that she remembered about the ticket in her glovebox.
She said: “The funny thing is too, I almost lost it. I had to pull over on the way home from the shops because I thought I had left it there.”
“After that, I put it in my glovebox, and I completely forgot about it.
“I’m scared to breathe in case this isn’t real. We’re in complete shock.”
The mum who hails from Aspley, a suburb in Brisbane, said she had a feeling a lotto win was on the cards.
The division one winner said: “It’s a funny story. At the start of the year, I had a really strange feeling I was going to win a major lottery prize.
“I told my parents about it, they said, ‘Don’t be crazy’, but I just had this strong feeling.
“I was shopping the other day, and it’s coming up to my birthday, so I thought ‘Why not?’ and purchased a Powerball ticket.”
The lucky winner said she and her family will discuss how they will spend their financial windfall, but a holiday is in the cards.
She said: “We don’t even know what’s next. We’ve worked so hard our whole lives for everything we’ve had, and we really don’t live a lavish lifestyle.
“We’d like to do some travelling.
“Maybe a family holiday somewhere. We’ve always wanted to go see New Zealand and Fiji. It’s so weird.
“I can’t even say it out loud right now.”
The instant multi-millionaire is Queensland’s biggest lotto winner and the third biggest lottery winner in Australian history.
Closer to home a newly-wed couple hit the jackpot with a £100,000 lottery win, but a shock mistake made them think it was all a joke.
Deborah Norris and her husband, Paul Gilroy, from Gateshead, celebrated a massive windfall in the Postcode Lottery’s Millionaire Street draw.
The couple’s jaw-dropping win started with what they thought was a single cheque for £83,333 each.
But in a twist that could only be described as the best kind of mistake, they were shocked to discover they had actually quadrupled their winnings.
Thanks to playing with two tickets each, Deborah and Paul doubled their haul to a life-changing £333,332.
When the lottery team handed over the second set of cheques Paul said: “You’re having a laugh.
“I thought the first cheque was the total for both tickets. I nearly fell over when I realised it was just the beginning. I need a chair. Thank you very, very, very, very much. It is absolutely fantastic.”
