Brit tourist, 71, dies in Crete after feeling unwell during sea swim and collapsing on beach

A BRITISH tourist tragically died in Crete after feeling unwell during a swim.

The 71-year-old reportedly collapsed at Ammoudi beach in Rethymno.

The tourist who was on holiday on the island went for a swim at the beach on Sunday afternoon.

She started feeling unwell so she made it to the shore where she collapsed, Creta post reports.

An EKAB ambulance rushed to the scene and rescuers attempted to revive her but to no avail.

The woman was taken to the Rethymnon hospital where she was pronounced dead.

A preliminary investigation is carried out by the Port Station of Agia Galini.

Earlier this month another Brit holidaymaker was pulled dead from the sea off a remote South African beach after rescuers raced to save him.

The 47-year-old had been swimming off the Cape Vidal nature reserve beach on the Indian Ocean coast on Sunday when he was spotted struggling to stay afloat.

A British teenager was left fighting for his life after nearly drowning at a Majorcan water park.

The 15-year-old teen boy was rushed to the hospital afternoon after the horrific ordeal in Alcudia.

And last month a British tourist drowned while swimming at a Spanish beach while the red flag was raised.

Lifeguards are understood to have warned tourists not to go in the sea at Racó beach in Cullera due to strong currents.
