Once at the top of the tower block, footage showed him count down from three before leaping into the night sky.

The camera followed him as he then went into a deadly tailspin while a small pilot chute swung wildly in the air.

Witnesses heard the man land in a tree before he hit the ground with a sickening thud.

A friend of the base-jumper is heard in the video exclaiming, “oh f***”, and emergency services were called a short time later.

Paramedics arrived about 7.30pm local time but could not save the the 33-year-old. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Traumatised security guard Kanet Chansong, 33, said: “I heard the sound of the tree and I though it was a fallen branch hitting the ground.

“A woman screamed so I walked over and realised it was a person. They were dead. I saw that they had jumped from the building.”

He said it was not the first time that the man had jumped from the building, adding: “They were making video content for social media. They had done this before and they knew it was not allowed.”

Staff at the Lumpini Ville Naklua condo are reported to have seen in CCTV that the base-jumper and his friend had sneaked into the building when it was quiet and illegally trespassed onto the roof.

The base-jumper supposedly climbed over a small concrete wall to reach the edge of the building.

Police Lieutenant Kamolporn Nadee said no signs pointed to the man being attacked, explaining: “The parachute that the deceased used to jump malfunctioned and was not centred as expected. He was in a terrible state when we arrived.

“The friend who recorded the video of him jumping was questioned and the video was examined as evidence.

“Forensics officers are investigating the case further. They are examining the parachute.”

The adrenaline-chasing Brit is said to have performed sky-dives and base-jumps all around the world.
