Brit, 69, dies in horror plunge from fourth floor hotel balcony in Pattaya as neighbours heard him screaming for help

A BRITISH pensioner has died after falling four floors from a hotel balcony in Thailand.

The 69-year-old is said to have landed in a narrow alley in Pattaya about 2am on Sunday.

The man was discovered shirtless at the scene by police and medics, conscious but unable to speak.

He was rushed to the Bang Lamung Hospital but sadly pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

A Thai woman who lives opposite the hotel said she heard the Brit calling for help and alerted police when she found him lying on his back, groaning in pain.

She said: “I was resting in my room when I heard someone crying outside.

“I grabbed my flashlight and checked near the hotel, where I found the injured man lying on the ground.”

The man’s body is reportedly still at the hospital but will soon be given to his family so they can hold a funeral.

Police Lieutenant Anirut Jehroh of the Pattaya City Police Station said: “We have inspected the British man’s room and found no traces of assault.

“We do not know yet if he fell on purpose or by accident.

“We do not believe anybody else was involved. A post-mortem examination will show us if he was drunk at the time.”

Another man, a 60-year-old Swedish swimming coach, also died after falling from a hotel in Pattaya early on Sunday morning.

He fell three stories – from a hotel in a different part of the former fishing village – and suffered severe injuries before he died.

Police are investigating the causes of both tragic incidents.

Pattaya is a city which became popular among American troops seeking a restful break in the 1960s, when the US military had bases in Thailand, although later spawned into a sex-tourism hellscape.

The seedy city continues to attract undesirables from all nations, despite officials’ attempts to transform the region into a family-friendly destination.

Local media reports the British tourist died after falling from a hotel on Soi Buakhao in Central Pattaya – a busy street between South Pattaya and Central Pattaya roads.
