The Brit family of Mr Berzeg were braced for the tragic news of his confirmed death on Thursday almost a year after he failed to return to his holiday home in Buyukada, near Istanbul.

The pensioners remains were discovered by a Turkish local and DNA tests have now confirmed them to be his.

His distraught British daughter, Nisa, has flown from London to be with her mum in Turkey.

The family have been left furious after only finding out the news through local media.

Nisa told The Sun on Sunday: “We are extremely upset about the fact that we heard only through the Turkish press.

“They called us before the police. We were already distraught but this is outrageous.”

Hundreds of Turkish police have spent the past 10 month combing hundreds of square miles – but missed the body found on a river bed just two miles from where the Turkish grandad set off on his morning walk.
