Another surfer raced out to try and help the man but he was circled by the predator.

Jeff Schmucker found the remains of the man’s surfboard with a large bite mark.

Eyewitnesses said the 55-year-old was part of a group of eight surfers in the water at the time of the attack.

One witness told 7News: “He grabbed him, pulled him back down, brought him back up, pulled him back down again.”

Cops have launched a massive search to find him.

Police said: “The man’s body is yet to be found, and the search will continue through to day’s end.”

The attack comes just weeks after a woman was mauled by a great white shark twice off the coast of South Australia in Beachport.

Pam Cook, 64, was swimming when she got targeted by the beast and was left with two brutal bites.

While last month, a man who nearly died in one of the worst shark attacks in Australia’s history, told how he was left needing 462 stitches to survive.

Australian shark expert Rodney Fox was just 23 when he was savaged by a Great White shark while spearfishing along the country’s southern coast.

He sustained a punctured diaphragm, torn lung, pierced shoulder blade as well as an exposed abdomen, ribcage, spleen and stomach as the beast dragged him underwater.

The brutal injuries were apparently so severe that his wetsuit was the only thing preventing his organs from spilling out and killing him.
