The bloodbath happened on the Grenelle quay, in the 15th arrondissement of the French capital, at around 10pm.

France’s Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin confirmed “passers-by” were assaulted in the Quai de Grenelle area.

He said the attacker has been arrested and the injured person was being treated by emergency services.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Mr Darmanin: “The police have just courageously arrested an assailant attacking passers-by in Paris, around the Quai de Grenelle.

“One deceased person and one injured person treated by the Paris Fire Brigade. Please avoid the area.”

According to local media, the attacker, said to be a French national, was tasered by police prior to his arrest at Avenue du Parc de Passy.

Le Parisien is reporting that a knife and hammer were used in the attack, leaving another British tourist injured.

It’s added that the person who died was also a tourist with dual German and Philippine nationality.

They were found in cardiorespiratory arrest on the Bir-Hakeim bridge, between the 15th and 16th arrondissements in Paris, shortly before 10pm this evening.

He died from a stab wound to his back and shoulder.

The British tourist reportedly suffered a head injury on Avenue du President Kennedy after being attacked with a hammer.

He is believed to have been walking with his wife and child when the attacker came up from behind and struck him.

A security cordon is currently in place by the incidents as police carry out investigations.

Officers said there was no early indication as to the motive of the stabbing.
