At least 14 dead & 30 injured in double-decker bus crash after driver ‘falls asleep at wheel’ in Thailand

AT least 14 people have been killed after a double-decker bus veered off a road and crashed into a tree in Thailand.

Police fear the driver may have fallen asleep before the deadly smash in Prachuap Khiri Khan province.

Authorities say 49 people were on the bus travelling from the capital, Bangkok, when it swerved off the route to Songkhla province near Hat Wanakorn National Park.

More than 30 people were rushed to hospital and at least 14 people have been confirmed dead.

Shocking pictures show rescue workers trying to pull survivors from the wreckage.

Pol. Col. Weerapat Ketesa, the superintendent of the Huay Yang Police Station, said: “We presume the driver might have fallen asleep.”

Officials were waiting for the result of a blood test on the driver, who survived the accident.

Cops were still investigating what caused the crash, Pol. Col. Ketesa added.

Most victims were Thai and a few were Burmese, police said.

Some 35 people were being treated for injuries at local hospitals, according to the Sawang Rungrueang Rescue Foundation.
